I want to shut people up
thoughts seem to spiral down an abysmal chasm
dreams feel like nightmares played out in reality
work becomes drudgery
music sounds like chaos
sessions become (truly) mundane
i play bejewelled non-stop
my social life is non-existent
sleep is the best and worst cure
tears run down like sweat
i wish i could live life backwards
love and laughter do no miracle…

This is not Love, perhaps,
Love that lays down its life,
that many waters cannot quench,
nor the floods drown,
But something written in lighter ink,
said in a lower tone, something, perhaps, especially our own.

A need, at times, to be together and talk,
And then the finding we can walk
More firmly through dark narrow places,
And meet more easily nightmare faces;
A need to reach out, sometimes, hand to hand,
And then find Earth less like an alien land;
A need for alliance to defeat
The whisperers at the corner of the street.

A need for inns on roads, islands in seas,
Halts for discoveries to be shared,
Maps checked, notes compared;
A need, at times, of each for each,
Direct as the need of throat and tongue for speech.

Gen thought i would like this piece, and indeed i did. I’m putting it up as food for thought…

In our pursuit of Love, may we appreciate how simple and unconvoluted love can be.

It’s been a long time that’s just…short of 2 years…

The revival of this virtual space is a random occurence. I decided instead of remaining pensive, conflicting emotions should be penned.I decided that self-disclosure (to some extent that is) keeps me ( and us all) sane and more importantly…congruent.

Embarking on life as a social worker sets me on a path where fellow sojourners share with me their intimate stories, their triumphs and also their trials and tribulations. It all sounds a little heavy-duty… but sprinkled with a tinge of whimsy, it could be one hell or heaven of a journey…

So far… it’s been ambivalent.

i woke up this morning to a sight of white…Holy cow!!! it’s snowing:)  well, call me a ” Sua- gu” but this is really my very first time seeing snow, walking amongst  descending snowflakes and literally living within a white winterland… it’s surreal but it’s really just out there, within reach and at the tip of my fingers…. I was hilarious with excitement!!! ( and so were the rest of the UBC exchange gang… i shall not elaborate on what we did)
watching the trees change it’s shade from green to red to yellow and now white with snow, i can’t believe i’ve witnessed 3 seasons in a short span of 3 months… the blue skies of summer, the falling leaves of autumn and white snowy winter all depict the versatility of a common landscape…

while it doesn’t normally snow so early in vancouver, i’m glad it came prematurely…thank god for my first white christmas 🙂

Wow i’ve got to say this is super belated cos in actuality, i returned from Seattle about 2 and a half weeks ago… nonetheless, memories of seattle remain etched in my mind. as a whole, the city has a different and unique vibe in itself, one i’d love to embrace yet again should time and ( haha, money) permit. What it’s all about: birthplace of grunge music as is proudly exhibited in the experience music project, setting of the authentic American Dream where buskers serenaded the Public Markets with gaiety and song. It’s a place oozing with rustic charm, lined with intrigue shops, strip clubs, showgirl lounges, bustling public markets etc…not to mention I chanced upon an election rally for American President candidate Ron Paul and visited the very First Starbucks in the world… ever!!! Oh and have i mentioned the slapstick, witty loony kind of humor that Seattlelites have? Here are some classic examples.. Along downtown, The neon signboard of a stripclub read, ” The Lusty Lady: Always Opened, Never Clothed”…. In a souvenir shop, A T- shirt with fishes on it read, ” The trout, the whole trout and nothing but the trout, so help me Cod”… yeah help me God!!! hahahaa

Seattle is certainly one place with an interesting past and intriguing stories to be told. Going on the Underground Tour, we learnt that the Pioneer Square that exists today was actually built upon the old Seattle City. How cool is that???

Food was fantastic too… went to this seafood restaurant called The Fisherman and pigged out on Alaskan crab, clam chowder, clams, mussels and prawns. It was so satisfying…. Then came Cheesecake Factory of which its GODIVA chocolate cheesecake was certainly something to die for!!! Last but not least, we went to this Mexican restaurant with fantastic ambience and had one of the best authentic Mexican cuisine in my life…

And to seal this memory with a wonderful closure, my friends and I visited this cosy Jazz Club in town called Tula’s. Nothing beats listening to a live Big Band in action:)

Well, well… Seattle was a blast! The pictures speak for themselves

a sudden rush of emotion filled me when i heard abt this DB tragedy in Cambodia. Maybe cos i was a dragonboater, and even now, am still contemplating whether to go back as a NUS rower…perhaps cos.. i feel a lot for the sport and because of that, it made this freak accident all the more poignant…far away from the furor and upheaval surrounding this shocking piece of news at home, i felt somewhat detached, yet somehow, the subtle pain that i’m experiencing seemed accentuated by this absence…even when i wanted to, i couldn’t express my deepest condolences… just thinking about how i paced against and rowed with the guys national team during occasional trainings leaves me cold cos after all, dragon boaters are all ‘in the same boat’ and fight with that same passion.  what i cannot fathom however is the fragility of life that even the strongest of rowers cannot fend against…i’m still at a loss for words; but the prayer in my heart resounds… that with utmost faith, the N team and my dear coach will recover from this tragedy and stay strong for the rest of his teams… and  may the 5 rowers rest in peace and struggle no more.

Sir, stay strong… you’re still the best coach ever…

OCT 31st, Halloween… my very first halloween in a foreign land that actually celebrates it… the spirit of Halloween’s in the air!! No, i didn’t trick or treat, neither was i sporting a wacky creepy costume…. but well i had my fair share of thrills when i visited this theme park in downtown vancouver!!! ( last weekend) the entire arena was decorated immaculately in accordance with the theme of ” fright night!!”haunted houses with 3D visual effects, hair raising rollercoaster rides and psychedelic ferris wheels… ghoulish creatures, zombies, men walking ard with chainsaws and grave diggers, spooky clowns and the terror from ” Scream” lurking around and creeping up, catching people unaware and scaring the hell out of them… this and much much more..

to my horror, i was dragged to the roller coaster queue by my friends the moment i got there… there, i had to overcome my greatest fear and it was then, i embarked on my maiden rollercoaster ride!!!

gosh the adrenaline rush was so immense i thought i felt my heart in my mouth… i couldn’t hear myself screaming… cos my heart was like plunging 90 km/hr( which was how fast the rollercoaster actually went) down a vertical height of 75 feet… i thought i was going to die! anyway obviously i am still alive and well… a hair-raising and euphoric experience indeed!

here are some pics from frightnight plus pumpkins, pumpkins and more pumpkins.

happy halloween my friends!

still missing pictures from the columbia ice fields…snow, snow everywhere

the canadian rockies, true to its name, was spectacular…well perhaps even spectacular would not do justice to this majestic and behemoth range of mountains and valleys that stretched across central canada…

from Vancouver to Hope to Kamloops to Jasper, Banff, and finally Revelstoke and back… it was one hell of a long road trip which brought me to encounter the most beautiful and amazing of places… breathtaking and scenic, the view along the way paralleled a motion picture featuring mother nature at its best…

almost surreal, like pictures on postcards from an alternate universe…the skies’ a different blue, the lakes and rivers aquamarine and glistening from the reflection of the sun’s rays…the sensation of snow on my freezing palms, the numbness of -15 celsius on the columbia ice fields.. snow, glaciers enveloped my vision as my eyes took in the sights and sounds of the rocky mountains from what felt like the top of the world…

from sea level to 3000m above and back, this is one journey that will stay imprinted in my mind for a long long time to come. words wouldn’t depict the sense of euphoria that filled me neither can i repaint a picture of auburn skies, meandering rivers and undulating snow-capped mountain ranges spanning across the vast land; down a road path overarching with trees changing its overcoat from green to the color of tangerine;elks crossing the road, sitting in a gondola that ascended a steep mountain slope, threading on glaciers in the icefields and walking though an old stretch of train tunnels named after Shakespeare’s Othello… all these and much more… though a picture paints a thousand words, the best photographs were captured… in memory…. 🙂

P/S: stay tune for snapshots from this trip!
